The miaList shines a spotlight on the meeting industry’s greatest talent and seeks to recognise the individuals and teams that continue to go the extra mile. The 2020 awards, which are now in their ninth year, will also specifically recognise one inspiring individual for the exceptional way they have managed and led their team throughout the COVID-19 crisis.
Prior to COVID-19, ICC Belfast’s star was on the rise. A hugely successful digital marketing campaign had been delivered for BAPEN to drive delegate numbers and AstraZeneca’s sales kick off at the venue encompassed a CSR initiative that was “unlike anything they’ve ever done before”. In the face of pandemic there were two options, fight or freeze. Knowing the paralysis of inactivity would have a devastating and far reaching impact, the response was rapid and focused on addressing three key issues:
- The People
- Business Preparedness
- Innovative Solutions
By focusing on these specific areas, the venue pivoted its approach in order to mitigate the negative impact of COVID-19. Proactivity and incredible live experiences made way for business preparedness. Internal communications and responding to the specific needs of clients were prioritised and a hybrid studio was built. The team has shown incredible resilience during this period by doing everything they can to ensure Belfast retains its status as a unique, vibrant business events destination and economic impact is delivered for years to come.
Iain Bell, Director of Finance and Systems commented on the shortlist announcement saying,
“The standout feature of this achievement for ICC Belfast is that the entire team is being recognised. For a business built on face to face interaction and emotional connections, how quickly we have been able to pivot and adapt has been exceptional. We’ve embraced new ways of working. This has fostered innovation and allowed us to deliver interim solutions for clients until we can safely welcome back the many thousands of delegates we host each year at our convention centre.”
The team has completed a judging meeting and now we need you. A public vote will influence which organisations secure a spot on the miaList 2020. The winners will be revealed at the online awards ceremony on Friday 04 December – we look forward to virtually celebrating all the winners then!
